They hope to get both sentenced to a year in prison on a lesser charge. Simultaneously, the prosecutors offer each prisoner a bargain. Each prisoner is given the opportunity either to: betray the other by testifying that the other committed the crime, or to cooperate with the other by remaining silent. The offer is: If A and B each betray the other, each of them serves 2 years in prison If A betrays B but B remains silent, A will be set free and B will serve 3 years in prison (and vice versa) If A and B both remain silent, both of them will only serve 1 year in prison (on the lesser charge) See more ». Gyver antics is mildly amusing but also pure generic fare for the show at this point in its life; it’s never not obvious where it’s all going, so pretty low on tension as a result. As Cross and his prisoner horde plans their attack, Whip gets to fire off the riotous one- liner, “It’s a freaking Mexican soap opera out here!”Elsewhere, it was fun seeing Kellerman on edge this episode as he came face- to- face with T- Bag, who we learn isn’t the biggest fan of Kale. T- Bag’s out- of- nowhere belief that Kellerman himself is Poseidon fell almost totally flat, and honestly, who bought this for even a second? At least the ensuing exposition dump from Kellerman explains the hilariously lame meaning of the antagonist’s name (he’s “so untouchable you couldn’t find him with a nuclear sub”). This thread inevitably ties back to rent- a- thug assassins Van Gogh and A& W, who are still stamina- draining bores, but their dull pursuit of T- Bag and Kellerman was basically worth it for giving fans a sight they thought they’d never see; T- Bag calling 9. Back in the prison, Abu Ramal remains a cartoon terrorist caricature and Rick Yune’s Ja continues to be frustratingly under- utilised, but in a bizarre moment he does get to quote Woody Allen, which is pretty much the least Prison Break thing ever. Conversely, the episode’s climax feels like pure Prison Break concentrate, serving up two ridiculously convoluted twists (one entertainingly absurd, the other a total eye- roller), shoving Linc in front of some very crappy green screen (for God knows what reason), and finally moving things forward with a significant upping of the series’ scale. Dispensing with a few elements that have been weighing the show down while emphasising the ISIL and Poseidon threads, “The Prisoner’s Dilemma” achieved a more enjoyable balance of tongue- in- cheek humour and action than prior episodes. And Sara was totally absent from this episode, which probably reflects not- so- coincidentally on its superior quality. It’s still a show struggling to escape that desperately contrived initial setup, but this week it mostly stayed on the right side of entertaining. Now just keep your fingers crossed that, as this season approaches its mid- way point, it can continue bounding forward. Bob's Burgers is an American animated sitcom created by Loren Bouchard that premiered on FOX on January 9, 2. The series centers on the Belchers – parents Bob and Linda, and their children Tina, Gene, and Louise – who run a hamburger restaurant. The show was conceived by Bouchard after he developed Home Movies. It is produced and distributed in association with 2. Century Fox Television. While reviews for the first season were mixed, feedback for subsequent seasons have been much more positive. Welcome to Bob's Burgers Wiki, an encyclopedia of all things presented in the popular TV show Bob's Burgers. This site uses MediaWiki software, which allows any user. The series premiere, . The restaurant is sandwiched between two other commercial buildings, one of which houses . One of the show's running gags involves the other building, which is usually vacant during episodes but has been home to such businesses as . His biggest rival is Jimmy Pesto's Pizzeria, which is located right across the street. It reels in way more customers than Bob's Burgers, creating tension between the two owners. Jimmy particularly enjoys humiliating Bob, such as when he got the high score on an arcade machine Bob had rented and taunted him by putting . The hatred between Bob and Jimmy Pesto is full of humor because, although they dislike each other very much, Bob's daughter, Tina, shows obsessive interest toward Pesto's son, Jimmy Jr.
Bob's Burgers. Watch the Series. This Emmy-winning animated series centers on Bob Belcher and his ragtag burger-flippers, who are desperate to get their greasy spoon. New York Times Bestseller The Bob’s Burgers Burger Book gives hungry fans their best chance to eat one of Bob Belcher’s beloved specialty Burgers of the Day in. However, it is often unclear how Jimmy Jr. He approves of her erotic friend fiction, starring himself, in . For example, in the show's opening, the property falls victim to a fire, an infestation of vermin, and a broken front window caused by a car knocking down a utility pole. In spite of all this, Bob does have a small but loyal group of regular customers, including the aforementioned Mort and Teddy, the local handyman. Characters. From left to right: Tina, Gene, Bob, Linda, and Louise Belcher. The Belcher family runs a hamburgerrestaurant. Bob is the restaurant's owner and husband to the fun- loving and happy- go- lucky Linda. Their three children are Tina, the oldest, Gene, the only boy, and Louise, the youngest. All three kids help out around the restaurant to some extent. Louise is somewhat of a precocious menace and an instigator of many of the debacles that face the Belcher family. Tina is awkward, but full of heart, and muddles her way through her pubescent experiences, such as leg waxing and strong fixations on neighborhood boys. Gene is the more light hearted goofball type and aspires to be a great musician. His musical numbers are often featured throughout the show, though Linda is very musical herself. ![]() One of her songs from Episode 5 Season 3, . This song is written by Gene and featured in the episode . Other recurring characters include the aforementioned Mort and Teddy, as well as Linda's eccentric sister Gayle, and the Belchers' sometimes- meddling landlord, Calvin Fischoeder. Episodes. Jay Howell had his art featured in a test animation based on Bob forgetting about his and Linda's wedding anniversary. The actual show has never used a word that needed to be censored by the network. The proof of concept eventually turned into the pilot episode. It had the same synopsis as the official pilot (aired in 2. These included: Cruder animation. Character models having longer noses. Bob wears a white tank top/singlet (in the series he wears a white T- shirt)The eldest child is male, and called Daniel. In the broadcast pilot, Tina's dialogue is almost the same as Daniel's and the voice characterization by Dan Mintz is the same, despite being changed to a female character. The intro had slower animation due to budget. Extra dialogue and plot elements were added to the pilot: a scene where the community reacts badly to the restaurant's health safety alert and Bob confronts Hugo about it, and a denouement wrapping up plot elements. This extra material expanded the running time from thirteen and a half minutes to twenty- one and a half minutes. The original pilot can be seen on the DVD release of the first season, released on April 1. They have served as executive producers since the first season. Dan Fybel and Rich Rinaldi were promoted to executive producers during season 6. Writing. Past writers on the show include Kit Boss, Aron Abrams and Mike Benner. Jon Benjamin, Rachel Hastings, Justin Hook, Dan Mintz, and Mike Olsen have also written or co- written episodes. After the writing has been completed, the voice actors read the script as written, but later are allowed to improvise lines. The editors and writer decide what improvised lines make the final cut. Voice cast. Jon Benjamin as Bob Belcher, John Roberts as Linda Belcher, Dan Mintz as Tina Belcher, Eugene Mirman as Gene Belcher, and Kristen Schaal as Louise Belcher. The other family members appear around him one at a time, beginning with Linda and ending with Louise. Linda puts her arm around Bob, Tina stands there expressionless, Gene plays a sound effect on his keyboard, and Louise poses for the camera. The restaurant then materializes behind them and the neighboring businesses slide into place, with a funeral parlor at screen left, and the street slides into view in front. First, the restaurant catches on fire. Then, vermin come running toward the restaurant as an exterminator pulls up in a van. Lastly, a car crashes into the utility pole next to the funeral home, which causes the pole to fall through the front window of the restaurant. A new banner is hung up after each event: . The gag present on Bob's Burgers involves the store located to the right of the restaurant, which has a new, humorously named client in every episode (such as . Additionally, beginning with Season 2, the pest control van in the sequence has the name of a different company on each episode; the van read ! Exterminators. On certain episodes, an element is changed for a special night (a flash frame saying . Bouchard explains that if the EQ is taken off the original track, there is noise audible from the nightclub below the apartment he was living in when he recorded the theme. The scene is the kitchen of Bob's Burgers drawn with a black outline over a white background and the characters in full color, with the credits off to the right hand side. The sequence consists of Bob cooking a burger and Louise and Tina doing prep. Bob places the burger on the plate for Louise to give to Linda, who takes it from the window, and a few seconds later Gene walks through the kitchen wearing his burger costume. Although the kitchen scene is still the main closing sequence the show uses, beginning in season two the producers began to use different elements from the show in the credits. Some examples: In . When characters in Video Games receive the Draco in Leather Pants treatment. Historically, this wasn't much of a trope, since in the original 8- bit games the . But as video games have become much more realistic in the past couple of decades, examples of this are becoming just as common as they are in television or film. There isn't even the faintest hint of sympathy portrayed for him by any of the game's characters. However, this doesn't stop the fandom declaring him to be a Hive Mind puppet of Jenova, and relegating him to the level of innocent commonly reserved for The Woobie — even though this theory was never implied in the game, and was blatantly disproven by Word of God and the supplemental materials. In fact, it's the opposite. Sephiroth is controlling Jenova. This seems purely an effect of his good looks as similarly bad but creepy villains in the story get no such sympathy, though it might also be due to remembering the Pre- meltdown version and trying 'badly' to merge the two personas. His injury was his own fault from getting reckless, trying to KILL (or at the very least injure) Sephiroth and not stopping when Angeal tried to stop him. He didn't really get any character development and he would recite Loveless obsessively (some fans argue this was from him going mad as his death drew nearer), he told Sephiroth what they were at the Nibelheim reactor and if it is made canon, it's his fault, which just fuels Sephiroth fan girls' attempts make him more sympathetic. Some like to ship him with Tifa for Love Redeems in fanfiction. On top of that, in the end, he gets no real punishment. His injury is healed and the degeneration stops and he survives for Dirge of Cerberus Seymour Guado from Final Fantasy X also receives plenty of sympathy from fans despite the fact he murdered his father in cold blood, tried to kill the daughter of Braska, murdered a fellow maester to go One- Winged Angel, and tried to merge with the destructive force that is Sin just so he could destroy Spira and . While he does have a legitimate excuse, he nonetheless is white washed by many fans acting like he never did anything wrong and gloss over his crimes just because he looks good much like Sephiroth, Seifer, and Kuja below and ship him with Yuna even though it was very clear Yuna hated the guy. ![]() Fans tend to interpret him any which way, despite his in- game character being the most despicable villain in the franchise, and has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Many other villains, including Ripto from the PS1/GBA games and Red from the PS2/DS games also suffer from this, but to a far lesser extent. People tend to forget that, in pursuit of this goal, they manipulated Sora and erased his memories, they tried to corrupt Riku, they kidnapped Kairi, they unleashed The Heartless, and they messed with many worlds. This attitude is still the same even after a game specifically about the Organization was released, with said game showing that the members of the Organization do not give a damn about each other and are complete assholes. The only one who did was Roxas, who is clearly noted to be a special case. While they do start out as heartless, their hearts can be restored through connections with people, which happened to Axel, Roxas and Namine. Xemnas and Xigbar were misleading them and manipulating them to keep them from making connections so they could become vessels for Xehanort's heart. This, however, does not change the fact that they were outright antagonistic towards Sora and company and were putting lives in danger. That, combined with his general coolness, lead to his role being tweaked in Kingdom Hearts II and the character becoming an Anti- Villain. Early trailers (like at 1: 3.
Axel looking much more evil than he was in the finished product. He has, like Riku, undergone a genuine Heel. Even though the game made it clear that Riku delving into darkness, even if to save Kairi, was not a good thing, his fans refuse to acknowledge his faults. Instead, they act if he was perfectly heroic and not in control of any negative actions, and that Sora is at fault for not helping him, or Kairi for not properly appreciating him and what he did for her. On the other hand, even after his redemption in KH2, a large portion of the fanbase not only still hated him for his KH1 actions, but actively ignored every good thing he ever did in the series because darkness is evil. Flying Whenever Abyssal Specter deals damage to a player, that player discards a card. And unlike the Organization, who do have the sympathetic backstories, Vanitas has none and is, quite literally, pure evil. He's claimed to be The Woobie being manipulated by Xehanort (he's very willfully his follower), only for the twoo wuv of Aqua (a girl he's tried to kill multiple times and was willing to possess if Ventus didn't work out) to redeem him. The fact that he looks like Sora doesn't help matters. The novelization does provide fuel for him being a Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds due to Training from Hell and originally being somewhat decent before Xehanort stamped that out, but it's made clear he's still very much not the misguided being the fangirls would have one believe. It doesn't help that his motivations seem to change every game, or that the developers themselves seem infected with Evil Is Cool. Quite fitting that this is exactly what happens among the fandom - another cutscene has Kane MST the . Mobius finding it and naming it after the Tiber River the first meteor crashed near, Kane himself actually discovered it first and named it after the Roman emperor Tiberius Caesar. Now, look Tiberium up on Google and see how many sites mention the name's origin but conveniently neglect to even mention Mobius' version of the discovery (spoilers for those who don't look: the C& C Wiki is probably the only place that actually assumes Mobius was the one to actually discover it). In the first game, he is one sadistic Jerkass who even laughs in the face of death. But fans latched into him due to his cuteness and his background, and he ends up becoming an Ensemble Dark Horse who got brought back in the sequel as Judas, who had far more good qualities and far fewer bad ones than he did pre- mortem. The developers further pandered to this fanbase in the Japan- only PS2 remake, giving him a less antagonistic personality and making his death more honorable. Tropes Are Not Bad for his case, however, as this pandering made him more believable and liked than increasing his controversy. He kills innocent people, plans hostile coups, makes people suffer, and generally passes the villain test with flying colors. You are here: Home Ivx #1 (of 6) charles soule & jeff lemire (w) Archivos Con Un Solo Artículo - Single Files: 1950s Secret Discovery of the Code of the Brain - U.S. However, he has his fans, due to his rugged good looks, high intelligence, and charisma, though most of them don't go as far as excusing his actions. He tortures people for the sheer pleasure of it and isn't picky about whether he kills members of the Underground or Metalheads. In Jak 3: Wastelander, he's driven completely insane and desires to kill everyone by blowing up the planet. And yet, pairing him with Jak or Torn is rather common. It helps that the storyline which shows the less pleasant side of her nature requires unlocking quite early in the game, so most players don't get to see how she treats her employees. Her last living emotion was compassion toward Paolo, now named Wretch and however evil, however vicious she may get, she feels that compassion 2. Indeed, the first time the player actually meets her she asks them to help Wretch because she cares about him. Many players refuse to even begin those missions. Some choose to turn hero instead. It's just hard to hate a guy who's dying action is to reach for the sky and sadly ask for his mother. Part of the problem probably stems from the fact that the game portrays his child self and adult self as two separate characters. As a child, he was extremely sympathetic. He was abandoned by his parents and raised by an abusive and demonic cult. Of course, such a messed up childhood did not create a sane adult. It's likely that since the child appears regularly, a lot of people are given the impression that it still represents who he is, when it more accurately represents who he thinks he is. Even though he's a rapist and murderer. Doesn't matter, he's . And yet the only romance the game gives to female characters is Anomen (or maybe that's why there are so many mods and fanfics). It should be noted the game gives her a Freudian Excuse already, with an eventual Love Redeems option, and as a supposedly Always Chaotic Evil Drow she is much less evil than she should be. That said, she is a willing servant of the evil goddess Shar; and attitude- wise, she is only nice to the player, and treats everyone else like dirt. She picks several fights with others out of sheer contempt or sadism, like making fun of Aerie for losing her wings, sneers at Jaheira's parentage and calls her a . So she may not be a monster, but she's still a bitch. To describe this guy as a monster is being too lenient. He takes one of the main characters, kills her entire team, beats the hell out of her, takes the form of one of her friends to give her hope before blowing her mech apart, and leaves her alive, just to piss her off enough that she'll awaken her latent power and kill him. However, even he has his fans. It may be in part to his incredibly kickass theme song, his absolutely vicious way of fighting, or the fact that he's basically an evil version of Masaki, but he's surprisingly well liked for a complete and utter horror of a human being. Just look at Shu Shirakawa, who killed countless people, helped start at least one war, and was willing to destroy the Earth to achieve his only- a- little- bit- sympathetic goals. Her first appearance is shooting down the entire Huckebein series, a fan- favorite mech thanks to their likeness with the Gundam mechs, shot down Ing Egret twice, the second one being a sneak attack, and is very fanatical to her boss till he gets rid of her. Tougher Malkin gives rising Penguins an edge. A sign of just how far Evgeni Malkin’s NHL assimilation has come took place a week ago, in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ game against the Winnipeg Jets. You probably saw it on the highlights. The first time the Jets and Penguins played this season, Malkin made his presence felt by laying out Winnipeg captain Blake Wheeler with a borderline hit, a big man delivering a crushing blow that Wheeler didn’t much appreciate. So when they next faced off, Wheeler asked Malkin to face the music and they squared off, dropping gloves, Wheeler getting the better of the 6- foot- 3, 1. Russian in a scrap. ![]() As they skated to the penalty box, TV cameras caught Wheeler giving Malkin a friendly tap on the shoulder, a thank you of sorts for doing the old- timey hockey thing and answering the bell. Don Cherry gushed about the exchange on Hockey Night in Canada, and Malkin acknowledged it was the right thing to do – saying in his still occasionally fractured English that he had no issue with adhering to the NHL’s unofficial code that, for better or worse, bubbles below the surface. Presumably, it can be a difficult thing for a player steeped in a different hockey ethic – Russia’s, not the NHL’s – to understand what’s expected when someone such Wheeler challenges him.“But he’s learned a lot just about the culture over the years,” said Chris Kunitz, the Penguins’ long- time forward and Malkin’s current linemate. Some guys want to go around you and make it easy. Gino wants to play a tough game. And when he’s on, he’s one of those guys, where it can happen in bunches for him.
In a three- to- five- game stretch, he can put up crazy numbers.”Malkin is in the midst of one of those stretches, 1. Wednesday night’s date with the Philadelphia Flyers. With a win, the Penguins would move into first place in the overall NHL standing, ahead of their main Metropolitan Division rivals, the Washington Capitals. Malkin presents a unique challenge to teams because he is both brawny and skilled, and therefore can beat you in a number of ways. Pittsburgh’s surge is in no small part due to Malkin’s strong play of late. The second player chosen in the 2. Alex Ovechkin of the Capitals, Malkin stayed an extra year in Russia to play for a Canadian coach, Dave King, in his hometown, the steel city of Magnitogorsk. Ovechkin, along with Malkin’s Pittsburgh teammate Sidney Crosby, became the post- lockout faces of the NHL, but it was Malkin’s arrival a year later that solidified the Penguins as a legitimate Stanley Cup contender. Malkin won the Calder Trophy in 2. NHL’s rookie of the year; and has subsequently won the Hart Trophy (as NHL MVP in 2. Conn Smythe trophy (as playoff MVP in 2. NHL scoring titles (2. Like Crosby, he has had his share of injuries, which is why he had only 6. NHL r. Generally, he and Crosby work together on the team’s first power- play unit, but play on separate lines at even strength, which creates all kinds of match- up issues for opposing teams.“He’s a competitor, that’s probably the biggest thing about Gino, just the way he competes,” Crosby explained. There are very few guys who can almost singlehandedly do that – but he’s one. When you see him going like he is, and dominate the way he can, that’s big for us. The way he’s playing right now, he’s really motivated and it’s pretty much impossible to stop him.”Malkin is fifth in the NHL scoring race this season with 7. He is only four points back of the leaders, Edmonton’s Connor Mc. David and Chicago’s Patrick Kane, both of whom have played eight more games than him. Malkin hasn’t played a full NHL season since 2. If the Penguins have any designs on defending the Stanley Cup they won last year, they will need another big push from the big centre. The main element that cardstock models derive their strength from is the structure. A well-engineered card model can be surprisingly tough and not need any reinforcement. Tougher Than The Rest Chris Ledoux ChordsFlames defenceman Matt Bartkowski is from Pittsburgh and was playing for the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League when the Penguins made it to the 2. Stanley Cup final. A year later, Bartkowski was a freshman at Ohio State when the Penguins won the championship and Malkin was playoff MVP.“I don’t know if there’s a better one- two punch in the league than Crosby and Malkin,” said Bartkowski, who praised Malkin for “his strength, his range and his ability to protect the puck. He moves side to side as well as anybody – and he’s also one of those guys with a high hockey IQ, who knows what’s going to happen before it happens.“There’s only a few of them in the league – and they happen to have two of them.”Report Typo/Error. Michael Jordan finished his brilliant NBA career with six championships. Le. Bron James – only 2. Nate Silver of the Times had a great breakdown of where they both were at 2. Le. Bron’s chances are of catching Jordan’s six rings. Also, here’s a graphic that was making the rounds on the internet over the weekend that you may be interested in: Undeniable: Le. Bron has accomplished more at this stage in his NBA career than Jordan has. The 8. 0’s belonged to Magic and Larry. Magic’s last game in his prime was in 1. Bird’s was in 1. 99. Then, Michael Jordan took over. Many a basketball argument has boiled down to, “hey, Jordan was beating up on a watered- down league compared to the 8. The 8. 0s were all Lakers/Celtics with a smattering of Dr. J, Moses and the Pistons. Scott & Worthy were hurt and missed Game 5. Scott took just 1. Bulls 4, Portland 2 – Probably the weakest team the Bulls beat in Jordan’s six trips to the Finals. Won 5. 7 games. Drexler in his prime. Bulls 4, Phoenix 2 – I’d listen to an argument that all of Le. Bron’s Finals opponents were better than this Suns team. Won 6. 2 games. Barkley was the NBA MVP. Bulls 4, Seattle 2 – A good Sonics team, and Kemp had a beastly series, but he’s not Dirk, that’s for sure. Won 6. 4 games. 1. Bulls 4, Utah 2 – Might be the best team Jordan beat in the Finals. Karl Malone was the League MVP. Won 6. 4 games. 1. Bulls 4, Utah 2 – Virtually the exact same core as the year prior. Won 6. 2 games. Here’s how I’d rank the teams Jordan beat in the Finals: 1) 9. Lakers, 2) 9. 7 Jazz, 3) 9. Jazz, 4) 9. 3 Suns, 5) 9. Sonics, 6) 9. 2 Blazers. Le. Bron’s Final opponents? This is probably due to recency bias, but I’d say they’ve been considerably tougher than the teams Jordan beat: 2. Spurs 4, Cavaliers 0 – The Spurs went 1. Tim Duncan is a Top 1. NBA history and better than any of the players Jordan beat, with the exception of Magic. Tony Parker or John Stockton? Mavericks 4, Heat 2 – Dirk Nowitzki is considered one of the best shooting forwards in NBA history. Barkley or Dirk? Barkley was 2. Finals, and averaged 2. He had 3. 2- 1. 2- 1. Game 4 loss, and 4. Game 2 loss. Dirk or Kemp? Dirk or Mailman? Dirk averaged 2. Finals, and made 4. Fun discussion where there’s no right or wrong answer: Was Dirk a more complete player than Barkley, Kemp and Mailman? The Mavs beat Kobe, Durant and Le. Bron in the postseason. Heat 4, Thunder 1 – Difficult to say how good this Thunder team was. We may not know for a few years. But at this rate, Durant and Westbrook (assuming they stick together) could end up having Hall of Fame careers and being similar to Stockton/Malone, who went to the Finals twice. Jordan never faced a dominant young scoring tandem such as Durant and Westbrook in the Finals. Heat 4, Spurs 3: Duncan at 3. Ginobili at 3. 5. And San Antonio benefited from the Westbrook injury (and swept the Lakers minus Kobe). The West was such a mess, the Spurs struggled against the Warriors (4- 2), then swept the Grizzlies, who were only there because of the Westbrook injury. I’d compare these Spurs tot he 1. Lakers, but that Laker team was injured and not nearly as old. Comparing across decades is impossible and an exercise in futility, but wouldn’t this year’s Spurs team have beaten any of Jordan’s Finals opponents? Here’s how I’d rank the 1. Jordan and Le. Bron have faced in the Finals: 1. Spurs (Le. Bron)2. Lakers (Jordan)3. Mavericks (Le. Bron)4. Jazz (Jordan)5. 1. Jazz (Jordan)6. 2. Spurs (Le. Bron)7. Thunder (Le. Bron)8. Suns (Jordan)9. 1. Sonics (Jordan)1. Blazers (Jordan).

No One Knows How Many Native Women Have Disappeared. Into more than 600 missing and murdered Aboriginal women. First Nation indigenous. Native American women are being murdered or disappearing — but police aren’t taking the issue seriously. A recent spate of cases involving Native American women from northern Minnesota being murdered or going missing has raised questions about how seriously such disappearances are taken by the police and other authorities. As Duluth, Minnesota, marks trafficking awareness month, local activists say some of the disappearances and deaths are linked to this issue, and argue that the invisibility of the Native American population contributes to neglect by police, media and social services and point to the need for better data collection in order to track the number of missing and murdered women. Three Native American women have been killed and two more have disappeared from northern Minnesota since May last year. Lisa Isham, 5. 2, Dawn Reynolds, 4. Rose Downwind, 3. Minnesota between May and December. Two other Duluth women went missing, one of whom has since been found, while the other, Sheila St Clair, 4. In April, a third Minnesota woman, Edith Chavez, was abducted in North Dakota, but managed to escape.“I think a lot of disappearances of young women can be tracked back to some sort of trafficking,” Patti Larsen of Mending the Sacred Hoop , an organization focused on ending violence against Native women, said. Chris Stark, a researcher focusing on sex trafficking on the ships in Duluth’s port, agreed.
According to federal data, Native women are twice as likely to be sexually assaulted as women of other races. They are also subject to high rates of intimate- partner violence and other forms of violence. These factors, along with poverty, substance abuse and foster care, can make them vulnerable to exploitation. One result of such vulnerability, advocates say, may be that Native women are disproportionately drawn into trafficking compared to other groups. A 2. 00. 7 review of probation records from North Minneapolis found that 2. Native American, yet they only comprised only 2. So it might just be a man saying the things that we want to hear that lead us away.”Native American women also face the challenge of being believed by authorities. Last April in Casselton, North Dakota, Edith Chavez, 3. Tower, Minnesota, was abducted and, she suspects, drugged for a few days before managing to escape from the back of her abductor’s car when she found him absent. When Chavez arrived at the police station in Williston, North Dakota, she says officers refused to take a statement, and instead checked her own record. They arrested her for an unpaid traffic ticket dating from 2. Native American women are being murdered or disappearing — but police aren’t taking the issue seriously. After years of pressure from First Nation groups. Minot, North Dakota. There, a female officer recognized something was wrong, had Chavez’s charges dismissed and gave her directions to the closest hospital. The Williston police department did not respond to requests for comment. But it issued a press release in June claiming Chavez had smelled of alcohol and had been to a casino, points not noted in the day log or the Uniform Incident Report registering Chavez’s arrest.“It’s pretty much ignored when Native women go missing,” said Carmen O’Leary, who runs the Native Women’s Society of the Great Plains , a tribal coalition that focuses on issues of domestic violence, sexual assault and sex trafficking. She cited the examples of Robin Fox , who was found dead after going missing“If there had been an immediate search, they might have found her before she died” – and Vicki Eagleman , a mother of five. The department recently received a grant to support Wick’s work by providing another officer who will focus on minors and help organize the relevant data.“There’s a lot of kids who don’t get reported,” said Wick. Stark said that the parties were presented as a good time with lots of food and drink, but that women were not always aware that they would be expected to provide sexual services. What’s more she said, the “parties” could have even more serious consequences. It is part of Duluth’s sex- trafficking taskforce, and held a training exercise last year with 6. It’s difficult in an industry that hasn’t heard any charges brought, any active investigations opened, to know that there is anything going on,” she said. So we’re really working hard to stay part of the dialogue.”guardian. |
